Frances' rains wash out Trail at Whitewater Falls
The rain on September 7, 2004, caused a mud slide on the hillside at the foot of the parking lot at Upper Whitewater Falls, washing out the Trail below the parking lot. The Forest Service has closed the Trail between the junction with the Falls overlook spur trail and the Hwy 130 crossing. If approaching the area from Table Rock SP, follow the spur trail to the Whitewater Falls overlook, go thru the parking lot to the rest rooms, and then down the spur trail to pick up the Trail heading on to Oconee SP. Reverse these directions if you are hiking in the reverse direction.
Contrary to rumours, Upper Whitewater Falls is open to the public and the restroom facility is open and operational working.
